چکیده

Nesidioblastosis is quantitative as well as qualitative abnormality of pancreatic endocrine cells. There is scattering of small endocrine cell clusters arranged haphazardly rather than the peripheral location within the lobule. Islet contours are irregular, tailing off into parenchyma. These islets are present in intimate association with ducts forming ductuloinsular complexes We recently encountered a new born baby with signs and symptoms of endocrine cell dysplasia.

Relevance of endocrine pancreas nesidioblastosis to hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia.

Whereas surgery often concludes the saga of hypoglycemia, the pathologist has the final word. In children and occasionally in adults, that word usually is nesidioblastosis, a somewhat ill-defined and nebulous diagnosis (1-6). Exactly what is nesidioblastosis? Does it represent any sort of pathology at all? More than 30 years after the initial description of infantile hypoglycemia by McQuarric (...

Diffuse nesidioblastosis as a cause of hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia in adults: a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge.

Hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia is caused by uncontrolled insulin release either from neoplastic pancreatic beta-cells or from functionally defective beta-cells. The latter disorder, which is usually seen in newborns, has been called nesidioblastosis and is divided histopathologically into a focal and diffuse type. In adults, nesidioblastosis is rare, and therefore its histopathologic and clinica...

Hyperinsulinaemic, hypoglycaemic syndrome due to acquired nesidioblastosis in a cat

Case summary A 6-year-old, neutered female British Shorthair cat presented with acute-onset weakness and mental dullness. Initially the cat was mildly hyperglycaemic (9.9 mmol/l; reference interval [RI] 3.3-6.7 mmol/l). Over the following 12 h the cat developed central blindness, tremors, intermittent seizures and opisthotonus. Repeat blood sampling revealed a marked hypoglycaemia (0.8 mmol/l)....

Human nesidioblastosis tissue as an immunogen for generation of islet cell specific monoclonal antibodies.

Nesidioblastosis pancreas was used as an immunogen in BALB/c-mice to generate monoclonal antibodies against structures of human islet cells. Seven clones were selected by screening 311 growing hybridomas for reactivity with the rat insulinoma cell line, RIN m5F, and with cryostat sections from human pancreas. None of the selected clones reacted with pancreatic hormones or endocrine-specific pep...

Nesidioblastosis coexisting with non-functioning islet cell tumour in an adult.

The most common cause of hyperinsulinaemic hypoglycaemia in adult is insulinoma. Although nesidioblastosis is a rare but well-recognized disorder of persistent hypoglycaemia in infants, it is extremely rare in adults. We present a case of a 59-year-old woman with small neuroendocrine tumour of the tail of the pancreas, diagnosed by CT scans and MRI, and hypoglycaemic syndrome. Laparoscopic dista...
